Project:

Lynfield Rec Centre

Category: Infrastructure / Public Facility

Overview:

Acclaim Electrical recently delivered a full electrical infrastructure upgrade at Lynfield Recreation Centre — a community facility operated by Auckland City Council and managed by Programmed. The project was driven by concerns due to deteriorating insulation readings on the existing mains cables, prompting the need for a more robust, future-proof electrical system for three buildings.

Scope of Work:

  • Health and safety planning and site management
  • Underground services location, mapping, and coordination
  • Directional drilling for nearly 200 metres of new PE ducting between buildings
  • Installation of 3 service pits for ease of future access and maintenance
  • Meter capacity reduction to suit current energy demand and reduce operational costs
  • Installation of 3 new mains cables — one per building
  • Upgrade of 2 switchboards and safe removal of legacy asbestos meter board
  • Outage planning and liaison with stakeholders

Key Challenges & Highlights:

Public safety and minimal interruption to centre users were central to our planning. One of the standout moments in this project was the seamless execution of a single overnight outage. This 3 hour window — carefully planned by Acclaim and Programmed — allowed for the full switchover, testing, and re-energising of all three buildings.

Outcome:

The result is a safer, more efficient and reliable system for a busy community space — delivered through detailed planning, strong coordination and commitment to enhance public safety and community services.
